Positive Thinking is great but Positive Action through Pivoting is better. Here are how some of my clients are “pivoting with positivity” in these challenging times.
- A client in the high end Home Renovation pivoting to fast home office construction.
- A client pivoting from leisure sales of boats to a focus on government and business sales of boats (see below – note social distancing pic! ).
- A client pivoting from providing Web Services to Web Coaching for business owners with time on their hands now.
- A client moving their B2B outbound sales team to be sales though service with new call scripts that check in on business owners first and foremost.
Another example is Coldplay’s Chris Martin pivoting from live stage to Instagram Live and playing requests from his home studio. Here is a Positive Action we can all do. Get on the phone and call a customer, a prospect, a supplier , a vendor and ask just like Joey from the TV Show Friends, “How you doin”. Then listen with empathy and share your feelings too. This is a time to build relationships not a pipeline.

The Today Show recently featured an author who was discussing a book about how to negotiate with sales people. I for one was quite taken aback of this approach. I believe sales is a noble profession and I have worked with, trained and been served by some extraordinary sales people.
In this podcast I talk with two young creative business owners. Alexander Park from Errands a Brisbane based community of photographers, filmmakers and car enthusiasts and Ben Hartnett from Hartnett Media.
